Fire cider is an immune boosting cocktail made with raw apple cider vinegar, spices, herbs and peppers. I got this recipe from my friend Lacee, and I put my own little spin on it.
Why make fire cider? The individual ingredients in this little concoction are full of antioxidants, vitamins and compounds. Much of them are scientifically known for their benefits. The rest is “passed down” as home herbal remedy. *I will note here that I am not a doctor. You need to use your own discretion here on whether or not you choose to make/consume this tonic. Consult your primary care provider before consuming.*
There seems to be a lot of critical analyzing of the cider on the internet. Most articles stating that the benefits cannot be touted, as there have been no official studies on it. While I will not argue the lack of study on the cider cocktail, I would like to point out that the benefits of the individual ingredients have been known for some time now.
Garlic has been used in home remedies and cooking for centuries. It contains antioxidants, which can help protect against heart disease and cancer. Horseradish helps to clear the sinuses, improve circulation and give your metabolism a nudge. Jalapenos contain capsaicin, which is anti inflammatory and helps improve blood flow. All the ingredients have properties that help prevent cancers, contain various vitamins, and support your immune system. I encourage you to do some research and see for yourself!
Feeling sluggish? Under the weather? Or do you simply want a boost with a kick? Then you might want to give this cider a try!

To make the cider you will need:
Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
Horseradish Root
Fresh Rosemary
Ginger Root
Turmeric Root
Fresh Sage
Fresh Thyme
Raw Honey
One Head Garlic
One Lemon
Five Jalapenos
Cracked Black Pepper
Ground Cayenne Pepper

Chop all of your spices, herbs and peppers. Slice your lemon. Put them all into a large glass jar. I used a half gallon mason jar. Then take about one cup of your cider and very gently warm it on the stove, just enough to dissolve the honey.

Add the honey and stir to dissolve. Add the vinegar with the honey to the jar of spices and then add the remaining vinegar.

Put a lid on the jar, making sure it is secure, then give the jar a good shake. Store in a cool dark place, such as a cupboard for 2-4 weeks. You may want to shake the jar once a day. When you are ready to use your fire cider, strain the cider and keep it in a clean jar with a lid. Store in your cupboard for up to a year. Take the cider as you wish, generally 1/2-1 Tablespoon each day to support the immune system, in times of illness twice daily or more. You may cut the dose with water in order to get it down, if needed. This could also be added to soups or tea, just keep in mind that excessive heat will reduce some of the healing and nourishing properties of the cider.
